Spring on the Emerald Coast: Your Month-by-Month Guide
SEASONAL · 6 min read · Roger Ridpath
When to come, what to pack, and what each month on the Gulf actually looks like, from a local.
March through May is arguably the best time to visit the Emerald Coast. Spring break brings energy to the beaches in March, but the real magic happens in April and May when the crowds thin and the water warms to the low 70s.
March
Water temperatures hover around 65°F, swimmable for the brave. Spring breakers fill the beaches mid-month, but mornings are still peaceful. The Mac & Cheese Festival at Destin Commons (mid-March) is worth a visit.
April
This is the sweet spot. Water hits 70°F, humidity is low, and you can still get restaurant reservations without a fight. Crab Island starts filling up on weekends.
May
Summer mode begins. Water temp reaches 75°F+. Longer days mean sunset doesn't hit until nearly 8 PM. Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of peak season. Book early.
If you are booking early, here is our place — fourth floor, Gulf-front, sleeps six.
